The Isolated Gaze

A documentation of the individual experience from quarantine to social life

Inspired by self-isolation and the transition from inside to the outside, the Isolated Gaze is an on-going reflection on the point of view of the individual. The paintings transition from contained spaces to open areas, varying in perspective, along with color, tone, and size. Within the compositions, the image is cut by strong forms, distorting the relationship between canvas and image. The works progress slowly from dark interiors to a broader focus on exteriors, documentation the shift in focus from 2020 quarantine to how to carry on in normalcy. With these elements combined, the viewer is left with the feeling of intimacy with not only the scenes but with themselves and their own experiences through 2020 and into 2021.
