She Gives Me the Creeps
To many, I am a sexual object: a faceless manifestation of desire. Because of this, I strive to refuse the male gaze and desexualize the female body. My figures play with the “feminine ideal,” they’re depicted as shiny, meaty forms, all while deconstructing the more sensual parts and reducing them to mere forms of flesh and shadow. The body, male or female, is fleshy, disgusting, soft, boney, it shows a spectrum of textures, colors, and functions that is superseded by male solipsistic desire. However raw and disgusting these paintings are, they are still seen as beautiful, sleek brushstrokes and blended colors that melt into one another. I want people to feel disturbed, torn between disgusted and seduced.
