She Gives Me the Creeps
To many, I am a sexual object; a standing, faceless manifestation of desire, because of this, I refuse to sexualize the female body. The figures play with the “ideal,” they’re depicted as shiny, meaty forms, while the paint deconstructs the more sensual parts, reducing them to mere forms of flesh and shadow. The body, male or female, is fleshy, disgusting, soft, boney, it shows a spectrum of textures, colors, and functions that is superseded by male solipsistic desire. To refute this dismissal, I strive to desexualize the female body.
However raw and disgusting these paintings are, they are still seen as beautiful, sleek brushstrokes and blended colors that melt into one another. I want people to see these and feel disturbed, torn between disgusted and seduced.
